APRIL WRITING UPDATE (AND A NEW RELEASE!)

In case you’re wondering why the blog has been so quiet, and where I’ve been…

I’ve been in a place called the Writing Cave. For me, that usually involves me with a dog curled up at my feet, a cat beside me, a cup of now-cold coffee forgotten nearby, while type furiously or stare into space while wrangling plot bunnies.

You get the picture.

So, where all of that hiding away from the world leave me?

In an awesome place, actually! Because, guys, my debut release, book one of the Tangled Magic Series, Tangled Roots, is done.

I mean, finished. The amazing husband-wife duo at Maple Cat Press is currently putting the finishing touches on the manuscript, and it’s already available for pre-order on Amazon.

I poured my heart and soul into this one. I am so excited for this series! It represents my love of so many things–of the Appalachian Mountains that I call home, and, more specifically, of Virginia, which I’ve called home for nearly 13 years! It’s also a celebration of magic, of witchcraft, of nature, of living simply and close to the land. It’s also a celebration of community–specifically, of finding a community that honors our unique gifts.

And, more than anything, it’s a celebration of my love of the written word and of the fantasy and romance genres in particular. There’s steamy romance and earthy magic. There’s nature and crystals and elementals. There are young lovers exploring their destinies together.

I am thrilled. A little overwhelmed, at times, by the nitty-gritty details of my first book launch, but also so grateful for the support I’ve received on my journey.

So, though I’ve spent my share of time hiding in my Writing Cave, with furry companions by my side, liquid energy in my coffee cup, and characters whispering in my ear, I’ve never been alone. So many people have encouraged me, supported my dream, given me guidance.

Thank you, guys. Thank you.

The rest of the second quarter of 2019 will see the launch of Tangled Roots on May 14, the drafting and polishing of book two in the series, Tangled Fates.

And, as always, there’s this quest for balance. Balance between hiding away to create the art and sharing with these wonderful communities I’ve found, in person and online. Balance between work and play, magic and mundane, home life and career, romance and…whatever the opposite of romance is. Watching the news?

So many parts of our lives intersect. When we create for a living, when we work from home, where does work end and play begin? When does the work day stop when we’re always at the office? When we realize there’s magic in every cup of tea, in every raindrop, in every footstep, is anything really mundane?

I’m still finding that balance. As I step into the realm of Indie Authordom, a daring adventurer ready for a wild journey, I know I won’t be alone. There will be writers and readers, bloggers and bookworms, artists and dreamers all along the way.

And that is awesome.

Please, if you’d like, let me know what your Dream Writing Cave looks like! I’d love to know.

Magic Awaits…
